The achilles heel of the xr5 platform would be the cracking sleeves. We have tuned numerous of these vehicles and multiple those of for ethanol fuel. One a road vehicle the other being a race car. Both vehicles contain upgrades to fuel system, intakes & intercooling, exhaust and of course the turbocharger. However only the race car contained the strengthened engine internals of pistons, rods and sleeves were the road vehicle did not. Both vehicles have been driven since 2017 and have not yet experienced engine failures. Is it possible that the notorious sleeve issue is relative to cylinder temperature, just maybe ethanol is a solution?
