The stuff everyone asks about ECU tuning, dyno calibration, diesel packages and what happens once the car leaves our workshop. If yours is not here, jump straight to a quote or pick up the phone.
CH.01 · Tuning Basics
Tuning Basics.
The fundamentals — what a tune actually does and why it matters.
ECU tuning involves adjusting the software in your vehicle's engine control unit to maximise performance, efficiency, and throttle response. By rewriting the factory maps for fuel, ignition, and boost, we unlock the potential the manufacturer left on the table.
An ECU tune, or remapping, is when your vehicle's ECU software is modified to optimise airflow, fuel injection, ignition timing and sensors. The result: more torque, more power, improved response and often better fuel economy. Factory settings are conservative — a tune tailors the car to how you actually drive it.
Dyno tuning optimises your car's power output on our Mainline AWD dyno in real-time. You can expect improved horsepower and torque, sharper throttle response, smoother power delivery, and in many cases better fuel economy — all backed by before/after dyno graphs.
Proper tuning optimises the air-fuel mixture and ignition timing for your specific engine and driving conditions. When the calibration is right, the engine burns fuel more efficiently — many customers report measurable fuel economy improvements alongside the power gains.
Yes, when performed by trained specialists using professional-grade equipment. At Tuned by Apex we follow strict calibration protocols, verify every tune with multiple dyno pulls, and road-test before the car leaves the workshop. A properly mapped engine is typically more reliable than stock.
Stage 1 is a software-only tune for a stock vehicle. Stage 2 adds bolt-on supporting mods (intake, intercooler, exhaust, downpipe). Stage 3 involves major hardware upgrades (turbo, fuelling, internals). We recommend the stage that matches your goals and budget.
Yes. TCU tuning optimises shift timing, gear response and drivability so your transmission keeps up with the new power curve. We offer combined ECU + TCU packages for a complete drivetrain calibration.
Most manufacturer warranties are voided on the powertrain once the ECU is remapped. We give you a plain-English breakdown before anything goes on the car so you can decide with full information.
ECU performance tuning reprograms your engine control unit to optimise power delivery beyond the conservative factory calibration. The ECU manages fuel injection, ignition timing, boost pressure and throttle response — by rewriting those parameters on the dyno, we unlock performance the manufacturer deliberately left on the table.
Tuning is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Tuned by Apex begins with a thorough analysis of your vehicle's current parameters, then builds a custom map tailored to your exact build and driving conditions. The improvements you can expect:
Enhanced horsepower and torque
Better throttle response
Improved fuel economy
CH.02 · Vehicles & Platforms
Vehicles & Platforms.
What we tune and where we specialise.
Most petrol and diesel vehicles — both stock and modified — can benefit from tuning. This includes daily drivers, performance cars, SUVs, utes and 4WDs. If your vehicle has an ECU controlling fuel, ignition, or boost, there is almost certainly performance left to unlock.
All makes and models from Euro to JDM — Audi, BMW, Mercedes AMG, Ford, Holden, Nissan, Toyota, Porsche, Mitsubishi, Subaru and more. If your vehicle isn't listed, give us a call or send a message.
Yes — diesel tuning is a major part of what we do. We work on Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux & Land Cruiser, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara, Holden Colorado, Ford Everest and more. Packages built for towing, touring and everyday driving.
We are authorised dealers for Haltech and LINK ECU, and we also tune Syvecs, MoTeC, Emtron, ECUTEK, BOOTMOD3 and MHD platforms.
Yes. We have deep experience with BMW M, Mercedes AMG, Audi RS/S, Porsche, Volkswagen Group and more. Bring it in and we will walk you through what is possible on your platform.
CH.03 · The Process
The Process.
How a tune actually goes down — from booking to keys back.
Most tunes and upgrades are completed in a single day so you can get back on the road quickly. Larger builds requiring mechanical work are scheduled week-by-week with clear pricing.
Yes — we work by appointment so each car gets the dyno time it deserves. Use the Get a Quote form or call the workshop directly.
Absolutely. Every tune includes before/after dyno graphs emailed as a PDF, plus a verification road-test loop. You leave with data, not just promises.
We offer RG240 emissions testing to VASS engineer standards — for both 4WD and RWD vehicles. Full analysis to support compliance and certification.
CH.04 · Pricing & Aftercare
Pricing & Aftercare.
Cost, payment, and what happens after you drive away.
Pricing varies by platform and stage. Factory ECU tunes start around $895, TCU tunes from $650, and full dyno calibrations from $1,200. We will quote your exact build before any work begins.
We accept cash, card and bank transfer. For larger performance builds we can stage the work so you spread the cost across milestones.
Most aftermarket-ECU tunes include revisions. Factory ECU tunes can be re-flashed for a workshop fee — bring it back, we will re-baseline and update the map for your new hardware.
A properly mapped engine should be more reliable than stock, not less. If anything ties back to our calibration we own the fix — that is the whole point of doing it on the dyno with verification pulls.
